It is thought that 1 in 20 people in the UK will experience a thyroid disorder in their lifetime, yet many people with such disorders don’t even know they have them. Typical symptoms of an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) or an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) can include weight gain or loss, tiredness, muscle weakness and low moods. However, these symptoms could be caused by any number of other things too, so the best way to identify any potential problem is with a thyroid function blood test.

Our thyroid blood test kit will measure the three main markers recommended by the British Thyroid Foundation to identify problems: Thyroxine (T4) Thiiodothyronine (T3) Thyroid Stimulating hormone It is advisable not to check thyroid levels during times of illness as thyroid function blood tests may not be accurate during such time.

This is the most accurate way to measure your available level of vitamin B12 and is the best early indicator of any possible deficiency. Vitamin B12 (along with folate) plays an essential role in the formation of red blood cells and also has an important role to play in nerve health. Low levels of this essential vitamin can leave you feeling tired and weak while prolonged deficiency can also lead to anaemia

Research has shown that our genes affect how we respond to our surroundings and experiences. Tiny variations can affect how our muscles form and behave, how our body uses the major food groups and whether we are likely to lack certain vitamins or minerals.

Our tests report on 1,000 biogenetic markers related to health and fitness, including:

Fitness and exercise: improve overall fitness and training plans with a better understanding of capacity for power, endurance, flexibility, increased muscle size, lactate threshold and oxygen use (VO2 max), respiration (ATP) recovery rate, injury recovery rate, lean body mass and power to weight ratio.

Diet and nutrition: find a healthy, sustainable diet specifically designed though a better understanding of responses to protein, total fats, unsaturated fats, carbohydrates, calorie restriction and exercise. Our tests can also help understand daily need for calories, how to manage weight loss and the risks of obesity and yo-yo dieting.

Health and wellbeing: overall health can be significantly improved when we understand the risks for deficiencies in vitamins A, B6, B9, B12, and D as well as minerals such as magnesium and selenium.

Our tests also highlight bone mineral density and how much calcium our body needs, as well as responses to supplements intended to help with specific issues such as inflammation and collagen formation.

Psychology: find out more about our body’s dopamine response, which can affect behaviour, cognition and motivation.
